Light Bulb Bans are Being Pushed Forward by Federal Government

by | Aug 17, 2022 | 0 comments |

New standards are being set into place by the Biden Administration and the Department of Energy for energy efficient lighting practices. The federal government has hopes to completely phase out the traditional incandescent lightbulbs with their new set of guidelines. These rules coincide with President Biden’s dedication to climate change efforts and reducing America’s carbon footprint.

  1. Lighting must have a minimum of 45l/W
  2. Old lamps that do not meet those standards will be phased out within 75 days
  3. Enforcement of these rules will begin in July 2023.

This is not the first time that lightbulb bans have been discussed or put into place. The rise of LED lighting phases out alternative lighting because of LEDs being more energy efficient, require less maintenance and help save consumers money. LEDs even provide better light quality than other lamps. Other lighting such as incandescent, fluorescent and CFL, have been losing popularity because of LEDs. Light bulb bans can vary from state to state but with the same goal of shifting lighting to become more energy efficient and safer. Lamps like incandescent, fluorescent, CFL and GSI are being banned in many different states due to lumen efficacy and screw requirements.
