Educational Program Helps Protect Buildings from Electrical Fires

by | Jan 20, 2022 | 0 comments |

Milwaukee city officials have started an educational program to help people recognize and prevent electrical fires in their buildings and homes. Since the local newspaper showed an increased rate of electrical fires, the city decided they needed to take charge of the issue. Fire education is crucial to the safety of tenants and business owners. The local fire department is teaming up with the city to give in-person and recorded sessions to show people what dangers to look for to prevent electrical fires. There was also an information guide to give to city residents and building owners. A safety checklist was also created for home and facility owners.
City officials are investigating ways they can improve their effectiveness while doing inspections to alleviate the amount of faulty electrical work in older or more run-down buildings. They are also working on implementing more regulations to landlord and facility owners to ensure peoples safety.
“We wanted to bring these departments together to help get out into our neighborhoods to make tenants more aware of what their rights are around electrical hazards, things for them to look out for and how they might be most safe,” said Kailyn Kenney, policy director for the mayor’s office.
