Emergency Electrical Services: No Laughing Matter, Except for the Last One

by | Feb 22, 2019 | 0 comments |

With over 25 years in the Lighting, Electrical, and Signage industry we have seen our fair share of electrical emergencies. Some are nuisances that make your employees work life more difficult and some are downright dangerous. Below is a list, separated into dangerous, nuisance, and 1 hysterical, electrical emergencies that Action Services can assist you with.

Dangerous Electrical Emergencies

The list below contains dangerous electrical emergencies that your employees need to be aware of. If any of these occur, immediate action is necessary. All of these situations could lead to electrical failure or a possible fire hazard.

  • Electrical shock
  • Burning smells
  • Sparks and a burning smell coming from an electrical panel
  • Fixtures/power poles about to fall

Nuisance Electrical Emergencies

This list while not dangerous can have severe consequences for your business. This list mainly focuses on electrical emergencies that interfere with your employees and customers. They need immediate assistance mainly because you need to keep your business running.

  • Entire store/half of the store does not have power
  • No power going to registers or refrigeration units
  • Tripped breakers
  • A car ran into the outlet for the ice machine – You would be surprised how many of these we get
  • Electrical panel buzzing loudly
  • Exposed wires at panel, ceiling or outlets

1 Hilarious Electrical Emergency

This last one is a recent addition to our electrical emergency list. A few months ago, our Emergency Services Account Manager received a call from a retail store in Texas. The store was having issues with their breaker box tripping at random times throughout the day and night. They could find no real reason for the issue and the store manager would reset the breakers and they would go on about their day. After a few such instances, the store manager placed the emergency electrical work order, and Action Services Group dispatched an electrician to assess the situation. Once on location and after reviewing the problem, the electrician called the Action Services Group, Emergency Services Account Manager to update her on the situation. Once on the phone, the electrician explained that the lizards in the breaker box where fried and the breakers needed to be replaced. After discussing the situation with the Emergency Services Supervisor, both the account manager and supervisor came back on the line. Both were confused, neither had ever heard of lizard breakers and trust me they have heard it all. Their confusion mounted and the electrician kept saying the lizards are dead or fried and it is tripping the breaker. Finally, the electrician said, “Look you got dead wildlife in the breaker box, I don’t know how else to say it.” Well, for one thing, he could have led with that. Needless to say, the damaged breakers where replaced and a new breaker box cover was installed so more “lizards” could find their way into the box. The point of this last electrical emergency is that surprises can happen and having an electrical services provider that can attend to emergency situations is a must. You never know what might crawl into your electrical systems.
