The Verona Beach lighthouse at the earie Canal has received a makeover complete with a power washing and new LED lighting to shine over the canal. The New York Power Authority and New York State’s Canal Corporation unveiled its new lighting in Oneida County. The lighthouse is a significant historical structure that was built in 1917 along the entrance of the Earie Canal and Oneida Lake.
“The Erie Canal is an incredible piece of our shared history as New Yorkers, and the illumination of these structures will invite New Yorkers and visitors alike to pause and reflect on the tremendous influence the Canal has had over the past 200 years,” said NYPA Chairman John R. Koelmel.
They have additional projects to help beautify the canal and add more lighting to the other infrastructures in the neighborhood. The New York Power Authority has dedicated over $300 million to the projects in hopes to help boost tourism and recreation along the canal communities. They also have goals to make certain sites more energy-efficient in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint and fight climate change.
